The core of our mentoring program is based on the Benjamin Franklin quote, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn”.
Each month Mentors and Mentees come together to participate in innovative and interactive workshops called Sister Circle.
ROCK YOUR CROWN
A workshop that builds self esteem and increases self confidence. This course teaches how building self-confidence reaches beyond the standard self-help program by addressing the core issues surrounding confidence problems and exploring how to reprogram your brain‘s negative self-talk. Based on the concept that we come into this world with a strong sense of self-esteem, this course encourages mentees to recognize that low self-esteem is often the result of mistaken perceptions about ourselves that start in childhood.
LAW OF ATTRACTION: YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK
A workshop that focuses on being open minded and changing your thoughts thereby changing your actions. This course delves into the workings of your mind and what obstacles you face in gaining control over it, to direct it towards positive more soul enriching thoughts. It is the Law of Attraction which uses the power of the mind to translate whatever is in our thoughts and materialize them into reality. In basic terms, all thoughts turn into things eventually.
EXAMINING YOUR FRIENDS
A workshop that begins the conversation of networking, healthy dating, your network of influence and the benefits of surrounding yourself with those that inspire you as opposed to only likeminded individuals. We discuss appropriate friendships and dating behaviors, identify and prepare for potential problems, explore the nature of mature interpersonal behavior, practice decision-making and problem solving, and learn other life skills necessary for overall healthy relationships.
WHO AIN'T DEPRESSED?
A mental health management & coping skills workshop that teaches how to push through and manage your depression so that it doesn’t limit you. While not excluding traditional and more conventional therapies, such as counseling and medical support, the workshop encourages mentees to take steps toward feeling better, taking a holistic approach toward mind and body. Taking responsibility for as much of the healing process as possible – even if it simply means making an appointment with a doctor – is a first step toward more confidence and self-esteem. In this engaging workshop we will offer an abundance of ideas for taking personal control over the nasty symptoms of depression. Focusing on self-help for mild to moderate depression, the course identifies the various symptoms of depression, and takes a meaningful and sincere approach, primarily to alternative and self-help tools.
Reduce, reuse and save. In this workshop we discuss the most fundamental tasks such as learning how to pay bills, credit repair and how to make each dollar stretch! We teach that finances and credit governs everyone’s lives. It is what allows people to buy a house, get a car, have a credit card and generally live a life they truly desire to live. Sadly, many people get into a debt spiral that soon goes out of control. They have trouble keeping their head above water, and soon they fall under as the weight of debt drags them down. Thankfully, finances can be managed and all it takes is having the ability to change how one lives their life. By implementing the lessons explained in this workshop, the mentee will be able to take control of their finances and credit.
COMMUNICATING WITH A PURPOSE
A workshop that delves into the many facets of effective communication such as public speaking, how to take on an active approach to communication, how to get what you want, and other lessons such as when it may be appropriate to lose an accent. From daily interactions with strangers to the way you present yourself in the boardroom, the way you communicate is a reflection of who you are and the way you establish relationships with those around you. By understanding the way you communicate and increasing your knowledge of conflict resolution and negotiation, you can increase your probability for success with others.
Parenting skills are something we learn, not something we are born with. Being a more effective parent or caretaker is possible for everyone! This workshop includes healthy eating choices, the impacts of a sugary breakfast, the benefits of reading to, and in front of small children, or why second hand smoke isn’t good.
This workshop will also help you understand how to communicate with your kids, effective discipline, instilling self-esteem, teaching children values, meeting their needs, being a good role model, and how to go about being the most effective parent you can be!
MAKING SOCIAL MEDIA WORK FOR YOU
A workshop that focuses on professional branding and marketing in today’s social media society and professional do’s and don’t’s of your social media accounts while actively seeking employment. In this workshop, you learn how to use strategic marketing and personal branding techniques for designing, enhancing, and promoting your professional image. Acting as your own Chief Executive Officer, you will learn how to use relationships, network marketing and impression management to showcase your skills to prospective employers, colleagues, supervisors, and other interested parties.
AM I MY SISTER'S KEEPER?
To have a good sisterhood relationship or to improve an existing one requires us to use tools and skills that enable us to understand the foundation of sisterhood, communication styles and perspectives. In this workshop you will gain insight into why it’s sometimes difficult to maintain sisterhood, why women often misunderstand each other or respond the way they do. We will also examine belief systems and their effect on relationships, as well as discuss how to identify unhealthy relationships, what to avoid and how a life script is developed and plays a role in forming long lasting sisterhood relationships.
